Flight Training --

Cadet Flight Training:

Cadets can use the glider for flight training leading to a Private Pilot Certificate with a glider rating. Tell your Squadron Commander or Deputy Commander for Cadets of your interest in learning to fly a glider. Once he or she approves your flight training, contact the Glider Program Manager for your Group, who will arrange instruction for you.

It is important to remember that orientation flights take precedence over flight training and all CAP glider instructor pilots are volunteers, so training opportunities are limited.

It is also important to realize that it may not be realistic to plan to do all of the training needed to become a Glider Pilot through CAP.

There are soaring operations which offer glider flight training at glider ports in various parts of the State. Check the Soaring Society of America website for more information.

Remember that CAP also offers flight training in gliders at National Flight Academies every summer!!!

Senior Member Flight Training:

Precedence is given to Cadet flight activities, so resources for Senior Member flight training are very limited. At the present time we can only provide limited training to those Senior Members who are actively supporting the Colorado Wing Glider Program.

It is important to realize that it is not realistic to expect that you can do all of the training required to become a Glider Pilot through CAP.  You are strongly encouraged to investigate other glider flight training opportunities in your area. Talk to the COWG Glider Program Manger or check the Soaring Society of America website for more information.

In accordance with CAPR 60-1, all Senior Member flight training must be approved in advance by the Colorado Wing Commander.
