National Glider Academy 2008  --  NFA-GLI08-Hobbs

Wow, what a blast.  We're all done.  See below for link to all 3,006 pictures.  This page is being updated.

Way to go Bob Lynn..  One of his cadets, Matt Ramage went home, took and passed his Prvt Glider rating.  Very big congrats to Matt.

This page is a "work in progress", so come back often for updates.  Last update was on 07/04/2008.

The Colorado Wing and  the The New Mexico Wing Glider Programs have joined forces providing a very unique Glider experience, both sponsoring the National Glider Academy 2008.

Academy location  --  Hobbs, NM

The dates are: May 31, 2008 - arrival, through June 15, 2008 - departure.

Hosted will be a "Basic" Academy for 10 Cadets and an "Advanced" Academy for 15 Cadets.  This is a "Cadet only" Academy.  The Cadet must be age 14 at least 7 days before the Academy start.  This allows time to get their Student Pilot Certificate prior to coming.

Basic Academy Requirements:

  • No Glider experience.
  • The desire to learn to fly a Glider.
  • What Basic training will be provided:

  • Basic to advanced skills as required by the FAA private pilot Glider PTS.
  • Ground instruction leading toward your Private Glider rating.

  • Advanced Academy Requirements:

  • Have a minimum of 30 Glider flights, from any source,  by the start of the Academy.
  • Have soloed or be close to soloing a Glider.
  • The desire to improve your skills leading towards your Private Glider Rating.
  • Open only for Student Pilots without any ratings.
  • What Advanced training will be provided:

  • Learn and hone all your advanced skills.
  • Ground instruction needed for your Private Glider rating.
  • Cross country skills.
  • If you are advanced enough and ready, depending on a DPE's availability, we might be able to set you up for your Practical Flight Test (ages 16 and over).
  • Important Note: The maximum fully clothed weigh limitation of a Cadet is 210#s.
